10 Great Seconds – You Just Keep Thinking…

November 6, 2011

Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid. Man this is a good time at the movies. There’s some slow sections (I tend to fall asleep during some of the longer “who are those guys” chase sections), but the fun of this movie is so amazingly fun. Written by Willaim Goldman (before he became WILLIAM GOLDMAN) and directed by George Roy Hill (who went on to direct World According to Garp), and did I mention that it’s just fun?

The setup:  they just robbed a train and are relaxing at a local “bordello,” watching the local Marshall in the street below try to gather a posse to look for them.  Butch is trying to convince Sundance to join the army and tells him he’d be Captain Parker. This is the first time they ever mentioned their real names to each other. As he spells out his plan, this is Sundance’s response.

Love that line. I don’t know why, really, but I just love that line.
